AromatherapyAromatherapy
is a natural therapy and ancient healing art, using essential oils
extracted from known botanical plants and herbs, to balance and treat
the mind, body and spirit. The oils help to encourage physical and
emotional well being.Essential
oils in their pure state are too highly concentrated to be used
directly on the skin and must be diluted first in either a good quality
carrier oil, water, cream or lotion. Methods of Use
When
using any of these methods ensure that all bottle tops are tightly
secured and essential oils and blended oils are stored in a safe place
out of reach of children and pets. Massage
Massage is the most effective and enjoyable way to use the essential oils. Always dilute the essential oils in a good quality carrier oil, sweet almond or grapeseed are ideal for a full body massage. Dilute one drop of essential oil to 2mls of carrier oil. Depending on the oil
chosen the effect can be soothing or invigorating and although a
massage feels wonderfully relaxing, it must be remembered that treating
specific ailments requires expert knowledge and you are advised to seek professional Aromatherapist advice.
Inhalation
Pour hot water into a bowl, add 1-2 drops of essential oil, cover head with a towel and close eyes. Breathe deeply.
Bath
Bathing is an excellent way to use essential oils. Select the oil which reflects your desired mood. Use on its own or use in combination with another oil. Run a bath of warm water, add 4-6 drops of neat essential oil and vigorously swish the water around to ensure the oils totally disperse. Try blending your essential oils in jojoba or coconut this will moisturise your skin whilst you relax. A small amount of milk can also be used to blend your essential oils, this helps the oils to disperse thoroughly in water.
Vaporisation
This is an easy way to enjoy the benefits of essential oils. Fill the bowl of the burner three quarters full of water and stand it on a firm and sturdy surface. Add 4-6 drops of neat essential oil to the water and light the nightlight inside the burner. As the water warms the aroma will rise and fill the room. Use oils to suit your mood or to create a specific atmosphere. Never
go out and leave a burner and candle alight this could be a fire hazard
and always check the amount of water as a tea light usually takes 4
hours to burn down while the water will be evapourated much sooner and
will requiry topping up. Fill a clean plant spray with water, add a few drops of essential oil, shake vigorously before use. Avoid polished areas when spraying. This is a quick and effective way to refresh rooms of unpleasant odours.Shower in the normal way. Blend 2-4 drops of essential oil in 10ml of milk or unfragranced shower gel. Apply to sponge and rub over the body. Alternatively transfer 100ml of unfragranced base shower gel into a clean glass bowl and blend upto 15 drops of essential oil, allow the gel to settle overnight and return to bottle, use as required. Make up blends to suit your moods, refreshing, relaxing, sensual.Prepare
a bowl of warm water and add 2-4 drops of essential oil. Stir water
thoroughly to ensure the oils are totally dispersed and soak feet for 10-15 minutes.Beauty Care
